Lei Cha @ Kulai

12th April 2008...

Today, CH and Luna were at Luna's hometown - Kulai again. As previously introduced by CH, kulai full with delicious food, but most of them are meat.

But today, Luna and family brought CH to this Lei Cha restaurant to let CH knows delicous food in Kulai not only made of meat. Lei Cha is one of them.

Lei Cha is one of hakka traditional food. It is a mixture of dried rice with long bean, pickled cabbage, garlic, egg, onion leaf, beans & fried peanut and comes with a bowl of vegetable & herb soup which consist of basil leave as main ingredient.

The lei cha is kampung has a guarated originality. Not like Lei Cha in big city, always added some alternative like carrot and corn.
Notably to mention, the iced milk tea are quite nice to drink.

Some side dishes selling at the shop: Pork cake wrapped in beancurb. Nice!

After went back to Luna house, Luna's mother present this pickles conch in soysauce with chilli and garlic. It taste good? CH's answer :"he finish this bowl of conch within 5 minutes".

Pork Mix in 21st Miles of Kulai

2nd March 2008....

After the must-have breakfast in Kota Bharu, CH recently also addicted by the delicious breakfast in Luna's hometown - Kulai.

CH's favourite breakfast in Kulai is in the shop selling the Pork-mix with the Kuey-toew gravy. The shop is located at the 21st miles of the main road in Kulai.
Clockwise from top left: The three-layer of pork meat, the stew egg and toufu, the pig skin,
and the pig's ear. All the mentioned are nicely cooked and the taste of the stew completely mixed into the mentioned stuffs.

This is the keuy teow in the stew soup. There's also similar food in Penang. CH tasted it before. Anyway, CH thinks the Kulai one will be the winner.
Notice of the red coloured chilli with vinegar and garlic on the top right corner? Eat the kuey teow and pork mixs with the chilli, I bet you will top up the chilli again.

With all above pork mixs, 4 bowls of kuey teows, and two cups of tea, it costs only RM15.00. CH felt so good to stay in a small town. Cheap and delicious food!

Food in Muar

18 February 2008....

Today, CH and his colleague went down to Muar for outstation and and spend over night in Muar. After work, CH and colleague went to hunt for Muar local famous food.

One the right of the pics is the well-known Muar Otak-otak. It is the fish/prawn cake baked with various spicy and coconut milk to make it taste impressive.
One the left of the pics is the not well-known white bread. The bread selling in Muar was really soft and elastic. Try to eat the bread with the otak-otak, or take it with the Kaya selling together with the bread. I bet you will like it.

After that is the famous Muar Dry whole-egg noodle. The mixture of the dry noodle in Muar was different from KL. It taste more fragrant with the oil, and less salty. The char siew is the most interesting part. The char siew is really soft. Try it, and you will know.

Another local specialty is the Mee Bandung. This mee usually only available in Malay restaurant. The gravy was really rich with seafood flavour and very thick. Not like the one in KL which only a simply thin gravy with sweet and salty taste.

Eco Village @ Kulai, Johor

I’ve been watching the Taiwan and Japan TV show, which bring us to a fruit & vege farm a have a vacation, and do whatever we like to the fruit and vege grew over there. It is so fun and relaxing to have a life like that.
My dream comes true after my dear Luna brought me to Eco Village in her little hometown called Kulai.

The Eco Village was brought by my dear luna’s mother. The Village own by a very old friend of them. The farm is a organic farm. It’s located in a small town inside Kulai which called Saleng. We need to go through a very “kampong” road to access to the Eco Village. Along the road, we can accidentally see a “mi-ji” in Chinese, if directly translated to English, it will be “Rice chicken”. The Mi-ji is a breed of chicken which look very similar with Kiwi. The Mi-ji has a dark blue-coloured back and clearly divided white-coloured chest and bottom. According to Luna, the Mi-ji is nice to look and nice to eat as well. Yummy yummy. CH Tan must start to find a way to setup the puzzle to trap some Mi-ji.

After around 5 minutes, we reach the gate of the Eco farm. CH is quite surprised that the eco farm is quite well-kept. This includes also the infrastructure. This eco farm is sized slightly more than a stadium. The building is clean and well-organized, which include the bed-room also.

The Eco Village was planted with varieties of plants. Let’s the photo below explain everything to you:
The abalone mushroom cultivation room

The dragon fruit(pitaya) plant along the walkway. Try to imagine when this is the season to gathering the pitaya.

Yeee-ha! The freshly picked cute little pitaya.

I believe this is another kind of palm three. Try to smell the fruit, it got the smell of ginseng!

Guess what, this is Passion fruit plant, in the middle of the pic is passion fruit. It will be ready to eat after the greeny turns yellow.

This is a lemon tree!

Another dragon fruit(pitaya) farm

Has been drinking "Umbra" juice in Penang or Perak lately? This is tree of Umbra! We call it ang-mo olive in hokkien.

Calm and peaceful fish pond in the Village

The red-coloured version of Frangipani. Of course, the normal-Balinese version also available there.

The Ubi, sweet potato.

The long-bean plantation

The Roselle Fruit! See this before? It is a breed from Hibiscus family. Can be produced to syrup and wine!

The cutie and shirty variaty kind of herb.

Someone familiar curi-ing the Jagung(corn), Hands-up! Hehehe...

The pumpkin plant

The young ubi kayu, Tapioca

The atrium, upstair is bed rooms, downstair is lobby and gathering place.

The yum-cha(tea drinking) place. It must be very nice to have good friends to have some tea and cookies and chit chat at this place.

The Eco Village welcomes your arrival!

It must be very fun to have a 2 days 1 night trip with a big big group of friends, and let them enjoy the environment of nature and appreciate them.

So, who's on the list now? Anyone interested just kindly report in comment.
