Cendol @ Taiping

1st August 2008...

一到太平,大伙儿提议去吃Cendol。Cendol档到了这个时候应该已经关了。
顺路经过一下,还真的有开。
Once reached Taiping, the big gang suggested to go to have some cendol. Usually the Cendol stall will be already closed at this time.
CH try to pass by the Cendol stall as he was heading to his house, and surprisingly, the cendol stall is open!

Bismillah Cendol Taiping - 在太平医院附近。
Nearby Taiping Hospital

太平Cendol的特色是味道不会太重,都调试到刚刚好。有一点咸味,一点点烧焦味,应该是老板特地调的。振鸿一向来都爱吃Cendol Biasa,没加其他料,这样才可以吃到原汁原味。95分!
One of the chacracter of Cendol in Taiping are they won't be over-flavoured, the mixture will be just nice. A little bit of salty, plus a little bit smell of scorching. CH usually will have the Cendol Biasa, which excluding any additional topping, as this practice allows CH to taste the original flavour of the cendol.

2th August 2008...

Ansari's Famous Cendol - 第二天午餐后去吃这霹雳闻名的Cendol。据说这档弄Cendol的技巧已传到第三代了。
CH and gang went for this Perak-famous Cendol. The current Cendol Making skill is the inheritence of 3-generation.

一口吃下去,不得了。好吃!椰糖及椰浆很香,但又不会太重,刚刚好。这档的烧焦味比Bismillah还重。但振鸿觉得这样才好吃。香叶丝(Cendol)也很软香又滑。100分!
The coconut sugar and coconut milk both are very fragrant, just nice also. The smell of scorching of this stall is heavier than Bismillah. CH feels the smell of scorching makes a better cendol.

没吃过太平的Cendol,谁人敢说巴生/马六甲的Cendol才是最棒的?
振鸿只是建议大家吃过了太平的Cendol再下定论。
Who dares to tell the best Cendol is in Klang/Melacca without trying the one in Taiping?
CH suggest everybody only make the decision after trying the one in Taiping.

Cendol Klang

26th July 2008...

After lunch at Klang, CH sure wouldn't forget to have some sweety. His kind colleague brought him to the famous Klang Cendol.

Here is the Cendol Klang at Jalan Nanas. Heard from CH colleague, the Cendol seller previous selling his cendol at the road side with a small stall, and causing quite a serious jam in Klang town because everybody queueing for his legendary cendol.

The Cendol is served in self-service. Thanks to CH colleague helping CH to buy the cendol. Here's the legendary cendol:

Strong and fragrantful coconut milk and gula Melaka, and the cendol really soft and elasting. Fast fast order another bowl. 90 points!

How nice it was? Figure it out from photo below of "tabao"ing(taking away) the cendol.

For the Cendol, CH will always recommend the Cendol Kosong/biasa, which mean there're no other ingredient mix with the cendol, like red bean, sweet corns, and jelly as the mixture will affect the original taste of cendol. Anyway, pulut(glutious rice) is okay for CH.

Cendol Klang @ Jalan Nanas
Biasa :RM 1.40
Bungkus : RM 1.70

Cendol @ Kelana Jaya

20th July 2008....

After today's lunch, as usual, CH wanted to take care of his taste bud also.
Going to treat his taste bud with some sweety. Surprisingly, CH went for cendol again, since everybody were craving for cendol.

This time they went to the one at Kelana Jaya. It is located at the LDP turning into Kelana Jaya.

The stall located under the big tree shadding. Don't worry about the hot sunshine in Malaysia.

CH ordered the cendol "kosong"(which literally mean empty in Malay). Here kosong means no other ingredient. CH has no idea why they served CH the shaved ice in weird shape.

This is the typical version of cendol, with red bean, herbal jelly and sweet corns.

CH found this stalls done slightly better than the one in Section 17. 85 pts!

Cendol @ Section 17

19th July 2008...

After the meal, CH sure will go for some sweety. This is CH's usual practice to take care of his taste bud.

There CH and gang went to the famous cendol selling stall at Section 17. The stall located at the Junction @ Jalan University turning to Section 17.

The cendol maker shaving the ice using a hand-driven machine.

3 cendol seller makes a famous cendol stall in PJ.

Nice coconut milk, nice gula melacca, and nice mixture of every ingredient. Nothing much and nothing less. 80 pts.

Restoran Selero Negori - Amcorp Mall, PJ

12th June 2008....

Previously when CH was working in Amcorp Mall, he was totally addicted by this Restoran Selero Negori.

Today his addiction outbroke and went to this Restoran Selero Negori again.

The Restoran selling various kind of Masakan Padang and Masakan Negeri Sembilan(Padang Cooking and Negeri Sembilan).
* Padang is a city in Sumatra, Indonesia, and Negeri Sembilan is state in Malaysia.
The food appearance just like normal Malay food selling at roadside. But! It makes big different after you tasted it.

The dishes served in traditional way - with a big steel plate.

1) The vegetable with Indon Belacan - 3.5/5 stars

2) The duck egg gulai(*Gulai is another type of curry) - 4.5/5

3) Fried "Jering" with minced green chilli. - 4.5/5

4) Deep fried "kampung" chicken with coconuts mince. - 4.5/5 stars.
The chicken is more chewy compared to normal commercial chicken.

5) Deep fried chicken Innards topped with Minced red chillies. - 4/5

The antique display in the restoran offers authentic dining experience.

Total bill for all above with 2 white rice and 2 teh ice was RM 28.10. It was slightly high priced, but the tastiness of the food pay-off the higher portion.

Portugese Grill Fish at Oasis Mid Valley Megamall

12th June 2008....

CH heard of this famous Portugese Grill fish at Oasis Food court Mid Valley long ago, but never go and try it.

So today CH going to try it out!

The busy stalls producing the grill fish non-stop.

This is the grill stingray

and this one is the grill sotong.

All CH found out is actually the attracting part is the tremendous amount spicy shrimp sauce they mix with to grill the fish. The sotong and the stingray actually tasteless, and rashly done.

But no bluffing, the sauce really taste good - 4.5/stars for the sauce, and 2/5 stars for the fish.

Priced at RM 5.90 per set(comes with white rice)

Charms @ One-U

25 February 2008...

CH and Luna went to One-U to watch the movie Jumper. Their show was on 9pm. And it's already 8.15pm, so they decided to have a quick dinner.

On the interconnecting bridge between old wing and new wing of One-U, they found this nicely-decorated Nyanya restaurant.

CH ordered the Tomyam spaghetti. The flavour of the tom-yam was really thick, and it tastes very spicy. It will be suitable for heavy flavoured food lover. It's special, but CH not really fancy it. RM13.90/plate.

Luna ordered this sting ray curry with white rice. CH think this dish is more worthy than the spaghetti. The curry is delicious, and the portion was big! There're ladies finger and egg plant in the curry also. The white rice served with papadam, pickle of cucumber, pineapple, and onion, and finally the local's favourite: sambal! @ RM16.90 per set.

The total price of the dinner they had was RM50+. It is expensive because of the expensive beverage. Their price of beverage is slightly higher than normal price.

Restoran Peranakan @ One-U

26 January 2008....

Tonight TTT and Fishies gang going to watch the Movie Sweeney Todd. Due to raining outside, TTT decided to have their dinner inside One Utama.

Actually they wanted to try the nyonya food at Charms, but the shop was closed on that day, therefore, they changed their destination to another Nyonya restaurant at Restoran Peranakan.

CH ordered the Lima Margarita(non-liquor) for drinks. Try to taste the Margarita with the salt on the peripheral of the glass. CH was surprised that this Margarita was good without tequila.

First to come is Chicken Ponte, the chicken cooked with anis, potato and black soy sauce. This dish is similar to the old folks dish in Kelantan called "Hong-bak", which mean "closed-meat".

Second, this was neither the potato leaf neither Kang kong, but this was Paku, the Stir Fried Fungus Vegetable with Belacan. Luna's favourite.

Third was the Sweet Sotong, the Deep fried sotong with Sweet sauce dressing.

Forth was the Lemak Prawn, the Prawn cooked in the lemak-ful curry with Pineapple.

Fifth was the Curry Fish Fillet. Good, but CH still think the chinese can cook this dish better, hehehe..

Final was the Braise Tou-fu with Minced Chicken and Sweet Sour sauce.

The food in this restaurant is better than average. CH recommends the Paku and Chicken Ponte. If anyone need to try other Chicken Ponte, CH would recommend him to try in Melacca.
The bill is RM151.00. It is still reasonable. Everyone totally get full with all above mentioned dishes.

Woody KT Keropok Lekor

20 Jan 2008..

Today, a very best friend of TTT, Woody, brought the famous Terengganu's Keropok Lekor from his hometown Kuala Terengganu. According to Woody, he bought ten ringgit of the Keporok. CH thaught it was just very little of it, and should be served after meal until he was told by Woody that The Keropok Lekor cost 20 sen per piece, one piece is about 1 foot long. He totally bought 50 piece of it!

Keropok Lekor is already one of the local snack since CH was young. CH always been asking his uncle from Terengganu bought the Keropok Lekor for him, with specified store: "007", which is after the before the bridge leaving Kuala Terengganu.

Keropok is made of unwanted staled fish (Yee~), with some mixture of flour and sago. But anyway it is still local resident’s (and CH’s) favourite.

Thank to Woody for frying the Keropok all along the session for us. Though Woody was quite disappointed with his skill of frying the Keropok which the Keropok became too crunchy and lost the chewy feel on the Keropok. Please don’t feel discourage Woody, we still love the Keropok fried by you very much. If you wanted to try another session to improve your skill, we don’t mind to be your taster again, hehehe…

This is the Keropok Lekor, in Hokkien, we call it “gao sai”, which mean dog shit.

Good food always comes together with good sauce.

Another thing to mention, TTT gang successfully update their “thrown in the pool” list for additional 1 more person. Congrate to Furby.
