Thaifood @ Kg. Kulim

1 February 2008...

Thaifood has been quite famous in Kota Bharu since Kota Bharu is just 30 minutes away from Thailand.Quite number of Thailand chef was employ by local resident to be chef in their restaurant.

Today CH went to one of the most famous Thaifood in Kelantan, which is Kg Kulim. The restaurant didn't renovvated like a restaurant, it is just look like the kampung house, that's why lot of people like it because it give a very kampung feel to dine in with. The food here was unique and taste like home-made.

This Restaurant is just beside the KTM railway. CH could see the train passed by when he waiting for the dishes to be prepared.

Before the food served, the thoughtful restauranteur give us the soy sauce with garlic, chilli and chinese celery.

1st dish is the Hong-bak, which mean the closed-meat. The name actually mean the food is cooked in a closed pot for a long period of time. The dish is cooked with anis, salted soy bean, black soy sauce, chicken and pork. This dish taste unique and wonderful! The gravy of this dish is best to mix with the white rice.

2nd is the stir fried tau ge. The tauge is fat and long and crunchy. Unlike local Tauge.

3rd is the lime steamed fish. The fish is steamed with lot of spicy and sour ingredient such as: Chillies, tomato, lime juice, assam, chinese celery, and mushroom. The fish is okay but the steamed-soup seem lack of sourness that night. May be the chef mixdosed it.(And hopefully CH's thought is correct).

4th is the Curry coconut milk prawn with glass noodle. CH and Luna love this dish very much. The curry is mouthwatering, and the flavour of curry and prawn mixed thoroughly into the glass noodle. The prawn is big and fresh, the flavour of curry goes into the prawn also.

The last one is the kampung styled roast kampung chicken. Please note the chicken is kampung chicken, which mean wild chicken. The wild chicken is really chewy and hard. But CH really loves to eat wild chicken. Although the chicken is hard and chewy, but it really taste much more better than commercial chicken. And the wild chicken is much more healthy to eat also.

Tonight's meal is really satisfying CH's taste bud. When CH and family leave the restaurant, the restaurant is getting more crowded. So can you imagine how nice is the food here?
